Peter William Mathia and Arra Elizabeth Beeman Family Record

Submitted to Mathia/Matthia Family Organization July 2008 by Duane Davis. Used with permission.

Peter William Mathia was born on a farm 2 miles east and 1 mile north of Clearfield, Kansas on Captain's Creek in Johnson County. Peter moved to Oklahoma when the territory was opened for homesteading. Peter and Arra lived near Hart, McDonald County Missouri; then near Clearfield, Douglas County Kansas; then near Tiff City, Missouri, but in Oklahoma. Peter and Arra homesteaded a farm located 2 miles east and 1+ mile south of Turkey Ford, Oklahoma in Delaware County. This road now dead-ends at the Grand Lake O'The Cherokees south of the homestead. After Peter and Arra passed away, their son Fred Mathia, with his second wife Sylvia, lived on this homestead. A butane gas heater was used to heat the bedroom. During 1986 at about midnight, the heater exploded and set the house on fire. Sylvia died in the fire. Fred lived by laying under a mattress. The house was destroyed. Mathia2.doc
