The Mathia - Matthia Homeland in West Prussia.
The family lived here for at least 400 years, from the 1500s to the 1900s. Some family members still reside in the same area today. The yellow area includes the cities and villages that had the most family members. The area known as the Koschneiderei is at about the center of the yellow and about a third of the size. Unlike other parts of West Prussia, both the ethnic Germans and the ethnic Poles who lived here were Catholic and hence intermarried. In other parts of West Prussia, the Germans were Lutheran and intermarriage was less common.
